BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Truth Wins Out condemned Mitt Romney today for bullying and assaulting a high school classmate for appearing nonconforming and what was widely assumed to be gay.

The story of Romney's abusive behavior appeared in today's Washington Post and sheds light on his current anti-gay positions, including his hostility towards recognizing equal rights for same-sex couples.

For decades, John Smid had been the leader of Love in Action, the infamous "ex-gay" ministry that took away the underwear of clients if the undergarments appeared too gay. The strict Memphis-based ministry also used an egg timer in the bathroom to make sure its clients would not masturbate while showering.

Of all the "ex-gay" ministries this was the most cult-like - with Smid keeping tight control over the social lives of his clients, who paid a pretty penny to live in the residential program.

Two witnesses said over the weekend that a counseling clinic founded by Michele and Marcus Bachmann performs a controversial “ex-gay” therapy. A former client of Bachmann’s clinic told The Nation that he was counseled to become straight when he was in high school. And the group Truth Wins Out sent a staffer undercover and was treated for his homosexuality.

Harvard is one of the most prestigious universities in the world, but it is getting bloodied in the world of public opinion for hosting an anti-gay conference.

The Social Transformation Conference, which will be presented April 1-2 at Harvard Northwest Science Building on the campus in Cambridge, Mass., is nothing more than a bunch of homophobic religious fanatics from the Far Right fringe who spread hate and lies about the LGBT community.
