Ugandan gay group sues homophobic pastor Scott Lively “for crime against humanity”

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), a gay rights group based in Kampala, Uganda, has sued homophobic pastor Scott Lively “for crime against humanity,” according to the lawsuit filed here on Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

Lively is being sued as an individual and as president of Abiding Truth Ministries, a conservative Christian organization based in Temecula, Calif.

Abiding Truth Ministries is called an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Uganda’s ethics minister breaks up LGBT workshop, continuing harassment of gays

ENTEBBE, Uganda – Participants in an LGBT workshop at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel were forced to scurry to safety today when Simon Lokodo, State Minister for Ethics and Integrity, burst into a conference and closed it down.

Ugandan media, which is largely pro-government, reported that Lokodo told participants to leave and ordered the arrest of event organizer Jacqueline Kasha. The Daily Monitor said Kasha escaped safely.

We have been reporting for the past 10 days about Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality bill of 2009, which has been reintroduced in its original form into the Ugandan 9th Parliament.

This bill includes the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality” and harsh prison terms for homosexuals and lesbians in Uganda, where homosexuality is currently criminal under the less definitive law of “crimes against the natural order.”

Word has it that the death-penalty portion of the bill is being changed, but what they change is has yet to become public.

Uganda lawmakers revive infamous "Kill The Gays" bill

KAMPALA, Uganda -- Uganda's infamous Anti-Homosexuality Bill -- dubbed the "Kill The Gays" bill -- was reintroduced in parliament on Tuesday.

The original version of the bill, first introduced in 2009, included harsh penalties, including the the death penalty for some homosexual acts.

The bill, authored by MP David Bahati, was intended to strengthen Uganda’s already-harsh laws against homosexuality, but instead received worldwide condemnation from many countries including the U.S., and LGBT and human rights advocacy groups.
