EDINBURGH, Scotland -- Friends of the cleric have said he has been told by Rome to shelve his plans to retire to a church-owned cottage in East Lothian and instead leave the country.

The Herald understands Cardinal O'Brien was given the news yesterday afternoon, three days after being photographed moving his personal belongings from his official residence in Edinburgh to the residence in Dunbar where he had been spending regular weekends over the past few years.

How employers can leverage LGBT workers' potential

NEW YORK – A new study reveals important new data on how employers can benefit from creating a workplace hospitable to their LGBT employees.

“The Power of Out 2.0” is based on a survey of 983 U.S. employees who identify themselves as LGBT. Surveys were also conducted in India, Japan and the UK.

The study was released today by The Center for Talent Innovation (CTI), a New York-based think tank.

“The Power of Out 2.0” builds on the influential study, “The Power of Out,” which was released in the summer of 2011.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron backs gay weddings in church

David Cameron will risk a major battle with his party next week by backing gay weddings in churches, the Evening Standard can reveal.

He will go further than ever in his modernizing drive by saying religious groups should be allowed to host same-sex civil weddings in churches, synagogues and other religious buildings if they choose.

Organizations that reject gay marriage, such as the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church, will have legal protection from being forced to host ceremonies against their wishes, the Prime Minister will pledge.

David Cameron facing "biggest rebellion ever" over gay marriage

LONDON -- UK Prime Minister David Cameron is facing the biggest Conservative rebellion if he plans to introduce gay marriage.

Nearly 40%, 118 Tory members of parliament out of 303, have said they will vote or are uneasy about the government plans to bring in marriage equality by 2015, according to The Daily Mail.

The report comes after there were claims the government would fast-track the bill and have a vote by January. It was alleged Cameron wanted to "get it done and get it done quickly."
