British court upholds ban on teacher for telling students that gays are "disgusting"

LONDON — Britain’s high court has upheld a teaching ban on a Christian educator who told pupils lifestyle of gay people was “disgusting and a sin.”

A judge on Friday rejected an appeal by Robert Haye, a former science teacher at Deptford Green School in London, who in 2010 told pupils aged 15-16 that, according to the Bible, the way homosexual people lived was disgusting and a sin.

LONDON – Amid all the accolades and tributes being paid to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who died today at age 87, are voices from the LGBT community who remember the conservative leader for legislating the anti-gay law, Section 28.

Peter Tatchell, one of the leading human rights activists in the United Kingdom, criticized “The Iron Lady” for her anti-gay positions and for other reasons.

“Margaret Thatcher was an extraordinary woman but she was extraordinary for mostly the wrong reasons. So many of her policies were wrong and heartless,” he said.

BREAKING NEWS: House of Commons votes on marriage-equality bill

LONDON – The House of Commons, the lower branch of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, conducted a lengthy debate on marriage equality in a historic gathering today in Britain’s hallowed hall of government.

This was the second of three readings of the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Bill. The House debated the whole principle of the bill, and the usual arguments for and against marriage equality were brought up.

After hours of debate, the House of Commons voted 400-175 to approve the marriage bill.

Study shows UK gay men's HIV infection rate soars despite testing

Efforts to reduce HIV transmission among UK gay and bisexual men over the past decade have failed, according to a new study.

The research published in today’s Lancet (Feb .1) shows that infection rates have remained stable despite increased testing and treatment.

While there has been a four-fold increase in testing rate and an advance in treatment uptake from 69 to 80 percent, new infections in England and Wales have flat-lined at 2,300 to 2,500 a year.
