Queer Pin@y conference to be held Nov. 3 at UCSD

SAN DIEGO -- Registration is open for the annual University of California system-wide Queer Pin@y Conference will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at University of California San Diego (UCSD).

The event is designed to provide a supportive space to facilitate intersecting dialogues on LGBTQI and Filipino-American issues.

The event, which is held at a rotating University of California campus each year, this year will be themed "Queer Imaginations: Ghost, Cyborgs, Zombies, and Monsters."

Destructive palm weevils found along San Diego-Tijuana border

SAN DIEGO -- County, state and University of California officials plan to hold a meeting on Thursday, Aug. 18, to update the public, the nursery industry, landscapers and arborists about the troubling discovery of exotic weevils that threaten several species of crop-bearing and landscape palms.

The County’s Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures, the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture are closely watching the weevil situation.
