Hillcrest parking website being tested

SAN DIEGO -- You've tried to park in Hillcrest. You couldn't find a spot. You also know there are hard-working people trying to fix this. But do you know where all the parking really is in Hillcrest?

The Uptown Community Parking District is working on a website -- and soon a smartphone app -- that shows exactly where parking is located in the 92103 area.

San Diego Restaurant Week starts Sunday

SAN DIEGO -- Sponsored by the San Diego chapter of the California Restaurant Association (CRA), the City’s biannual Restaurant Week returns this month. For one week, Jan. 13-18, over 140,000 people are expected to participate by visiting numerous restaurants, including several in Uptown.

Restaurants will be offering three-course prix-fixe dinner menus for $20, $30 or $40 per person. There are over 180 eateries scheduled to offer the special prices. In addition, several restaurants will be offering two-course lunch menus, starting at $10 per person.

Buyer interest strong in Uptown neighborhoods

SAN DIEGO -- Despite the sluggish economy, the state of residential real estate transactions remains strong in Uptown neighborhoods, and Marla Hovland, vice president and realtor with San Diego-based CityMark Realty, said there are several attributes boding well for the area, including a strong sense of community and support for many historic buildings that dot the landscape.

COMMENTARY: Why I’m thankful for our strict gun regulations, even if they might not work

Like most everyone else in the country, I listened, read and watched with horror on Dec. 14 as the details of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. unfolded. I was running errands with my 3-year-old twins, who don’t really know what guns are for or what dying is. We stopped at a pizza joint for lunch, which, unfortunately, had televisions aimed at us from every angle.

New biking initiatives take to San Diego's streets

SAN DIEGO -- A new public bicycle corral was the centerpiece of a set of new bike-friendly initiatives launched Sept. 6 in North Park. The initiatives bring San Diego closer to similar commuter environments in two other large cities, both with bike-friendly policies that are a model for the nation and provide a natural fit for San Diego.
