Protests expected outside of University of San Diego drag show tonight | VIDEO

SAN DIEGO - On Thursday, a controversial drag show is set to take place for the second time on the campus of University of San Diego, but some students believe the Catholic campus is no place for a show like this.

The controversy has divided USD students down the middle. On one side is the student-run PRIDE group, which is made up of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning students who are saying that all views should be celebrated. The other is a student group saying a drag show has no business on a Catholic campus.

The nature of justice in civic affairs and honor and integrity in personal contexts are under consideration in Shakespeare’s disquieting “Measure For Measure,” playing through Nov. 18 in the Old Globe’s Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre.

PRIDE group at USD to celebrate 21 years at Saturday event

SAN DIEGO -- PRIDE - The University of San Diego's (USD) LGBT student group - will celebrate its 21st anniversary with a special fundraiser celebration on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Students, faculty, alumni, friends and supporters of USD's LGBT community are welcome to attend the event, which is being sponsored by alumni of USD's PRIDE group.

Founded in 1991, the group has a long history of bringing LGBT issues to the forefront of the private Catholic university.

SAN DIEGO – Charles Robert Cook, known by friends and loved ones as Chuck, died Monday afternoon from injuries that resulted from a car accident in July. He was 35 years old.

VIDEO: Despite complaints, USD to host first-ever drag show tonight

SAN DIEGO -- The University of San Diego's (USD) PRIDE organization will host a drag show tonight on the campus, despite complaints from an alumnus who has threatened to pull his support of the school, saying the event is contrary to Catholic beliefs.

Citing a California state law passed in October 2011, AB 887 and USD's addition of "gender identity" and "gender expression" to its Equal Opportunity Policy and Policy Prohibiting Discrimination and Harassment, USD president Mary Lyons approved the event, receiving numerous letters of support from community members commending her decision.

USD conference to focus on restoring civility to civic dialogue in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- During election seasons - especially in presidential election years - the dialogue surrounding the candidates and issues can become anything but cordial.

In an effort to find ways to mitigate the rise of incivility amongst individuals, community leaders, public officials and the media in San Diego, the University of San Diego (USD) will host the first annual Community Conference on Restoring Civility to Civic Dialogue on Monday, April 9.
