Gay For Good seeking volunteers for Harvey Milk Day of Service project

SAN DIEGO -- In a partnership with the Harvey Milk Foundation, Gay For Good has called for its chapters to participate in a "Harvey Milk Day of Service" project.

The San Diego Chapter is seeking volunteers for its project at the San Diego Food Bank on Tuesday, May 14 from 6-8 pm.

Dining Out for Life volunteer orientations set

SAN DIEGO -- To help prepare for San Diego’s April 25 Dining Out for Life event, The San Diego LGBT Community Center has scheduled five separate volunteer orientations, starting Saturday, March 9 at 10 am.

Last call for San Diego Pride volunteer registration

SAN DIEGO -- The annual San Diego LGBT Pride celebration - "America's Pride" - is just two weeks away and volunteers are still needed to help make the event a success. As one of the largest such events in the country, the San Diego Pride organization counts on an army of volunteers to make the parade, festival and other events a reality.

Volunteers are needed in a number of areas, including:

- Safety

- Recycling

- Sales and merchandise

- Transportation and communications

- Parade staging

- Exhibitor relations

Volunteers needed for annual US Police & Fire Championships in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- Volunteers are needed for the annual United States Police & Fire Championships, to be held June 16-24 at various locations throughout San Diego County.

The event, which began in 1967 as the California Police Olympics, promotes physical fitness, camaraderie and sport within the communities of public safety personnel. Competitions are open to full time law enforcement and firefighting personnel.

Over 55 sporting events will take place this year, with nearly 5,000 competitors.

COMMUNITY PROFILE: Ebony Burnett Aldridge

Although she was born at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Ebony Burnett Aldridge was raised in the South -- in Millbrook, Alabama. The 30-year old systems engineer is a small business owner with a passion for social justice and giving back to her community.

Burnett, who moved back to San Diego five years ago, has been with her wife Krissy for six years. The couple celebrated their anniversary on Valentine's Day.

San Diego Pride to host volunteer information session to share year-round opportunities

SAN DIEGO -- Those looking to get involved with San Diego Pride's year-round volunteer programs are encouraged to attend an information session on Saturday, Feb. 11.

San Diego Pride, which produces the annual San Diego LGBT Pride Parade and Festival, has a host of volunteer opportunities available year-round in a number of different areas. Not only does the organization need assistance organizing its annual signature events, but it participates in numerous civic engagement and human rights projects throughout the year.

North County LGBTQ Resource Center seeking volunteers

OCEANSIDE -- The North County LGBTQ Resource Center is seeking volunteers to support the programs and services of the facility, which opened just over a month ago.

Volunteers are being sought to help in a number of areas, including administrative support; community ambassadors; and event volunteers. Besides being open as a community resource space, the North County LGBTQ Resource Center hosts a number of workshops, support groups, classes, and social activities in its space.

TONIGHT: Young professionals invited to mixer to learn about community service opportunities

SAN DIEGO -- Future Leaders of Our Community (FLOC) San Diego chapter will host its first awareness event of the year tonight, giving guests the opportunity to learn about volunteer opportunities with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Those who attend the 6:30 pm event, which will be held at Bamboo Lounge in Hillcrest, will have the opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded individuals who are looking to volunteer and get involved with a worthy cause.

SUNDAY: Gay For Good seeks volunteers for native garden restoration project

SAN DIEGO -- Gay for Good San Diego (G4G) is looking for volunteers to participate in its next community service project to take place Sunday, Dec. 18, at 9 am.

Volunteers will work with the San Diego River Park Foundation to help them replant the Point Loma Native Plant Garden, which houses many rare and endangered native plants. The foundation says that some plants in the collection are unique to the region, and are not found naturally anywhere else in the world.
